抖M女仆 Recognized for Innovative Advising Program
抖M女仆 recently was recognized for its efforts to provide academic advising to students in on-campus parking garages. (UAS) received the 鈥淢ost Innovative Programming Award鈥 at the (FLACADA) annual conference, hosted by Florida A & M University.
聽鈥淕et Wise: Advising on the Go鈥 was launched in spring 2015 in an effort to target commuter students and working students who take evening classes when 抖M女仆 offices are closed. About 83 percent of the 21,000 students on the Boca Raton campus are commuters. Academic advisers are stationed in Garages 1 and 2 between 5 and 7 p.m. to talk with students, answer questions and to partner them with their assigned academic advisors. In fall 2016, advisers spoke with nearly 400 students in the parking garages.
鈥淭his program is truly an example of meeting students where they are,鈥 said Angel Nevin, assistant director of UAS. 鈥淏y connecting students to an academic adviser, we are encouraging and fostering student involvement and engagement, which has been shown to increase retention.鈥
