The Osher LLI at ��MŮ�� Jupiter Announces Winter Course Schedule

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ��MŮ�� in Jupiter has announced its course offerings for the winter semester, which begins Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. Registration for the winter semester begins Monday, Nov. 1, 2021.

Taught by ��MŮ�� professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute provides seasoned adults the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests.

Winter one-time lectures, performances and courses will take place online and in-person in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at ��MŮ��’s John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., and include:

On Tuesday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m., “The Hollywood Musical: Four Decades of Magic!” presented by Robert Wyatt, a lecturer and recitalist for the Smithsonian Institution for 26 years, this one-time lecture will highlight musical recordings and film clips about the golden age of Hollywood’s musicals.
On Monday, Jan. 31 at 12 p.m., “Music and Art: Impressionism,” presented by Thomas M. Cimarusti, Ph.D., a professor of music history at Florida Gulf Coast University. This one-time lecture examines how Claude Debussy adapted by the late 19^th-century French artistic movement known as Impressionism into a new language.
On Tuesday, Feb. 1 at 9:30 a.m., “Is American Politics Broken? Rethinking Civics in the Modern Era,” presented by Kevin Wagner, Ph.D., a professor of political science at ��MŮ��. This one-time lecture will explore and review the state of American politics and what Americans can do to restore both function and faith to the system.
On Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 2:30 p.m., “Presidents, Jews and Israel,” presented by Hank Savitch, Ph.D., an affiliate professor of the urban and regional planning department at ��MŮ��. This one-time lecture will examine critical encounters between American presidents and Israel.
On Thursday, Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m., “F. Scott Fitzgerald and the Pursuit of Greatness,” presented by Matt Klauza, Ph.D., a professor at Palm Beach State College. This one-time lecture will address the events in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s life that shaped his need for achieving greatness and his pursuit of it.
On Thursday, Feb. 17 at 11 a.m., “Where the Buck Stops: Harry Truman on Presidents and the Presidency,” presented by Clifton Truman Daniel, the oldest grandson of former U.S. President Harry S. Truman. Daniel will give the audience an idea of the late president’s thinking on Washington, including past and current presidents and their administrations.
On Thursday, Mar. 17 at 11 a.m., “Books of the 1950s: Do They Speak to Us Today?” presented by Margery Marcus, Ed.D, a retired and award-winning English teacher from the Broward County Public School District. In this one-time lecture, Marcus will examine and address the appeal and popularity of novels including “The Catcher in the Rye,” “A Stone for Danny Fisher,” and “Peyton Place.”
