The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at 抖M女仆 in Jupiter has announced its course offerings for the winter semester, which begins Monday, Jan. 7, 2019.

Taught by 抖M女仆 professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute was established to provide adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests.

Winter one-time lectures and courses take place in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at 抖M女仆鈥檚 John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., in Jupiter, and include:

  • On Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019 at 1 p.m., 鈥淭he Great American Tear-Jerker,鈥 performed by Robert Milne, a musician declared a 鈥渘ational treasure鈥 by the Library of Congress. This one-time performance will focus on 鈥淧riscilla at the Piano,鈥 which is an old phrase among saloon piano players referring to those who would sit at their upright pianos at home in the 1890s and sing the old 鈥渢earjerker鈥 songs.
  • On Monday, Jan. 14, 2019 at 9 a.m., 鈥淭he Future of Religion or Why God is Not Dead,鈥 taught by Byron McCane, Ph.D., a professor in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at 抖M女仆. This six-week course will explore how and why religion was able to adapt and succeed in a changing environment.
  • On Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019 at 4:30 p.m., 鈥淚srael and the Middle East,鈥 taught by Ambassador Ido Aharoni is an eight-week course that will examine Israel鈥檚 civil liberties, market principles, military power and relationships with its neighbors.
  • On Thursday, Jan. 24, 2019 at 3:45 p.m., 鈥淔orgiveness: Possibilities and Limits in a Vengeful Age,鈥 taught by Stephanie Cassatly, an author and instructor at Palm Beach Atlantic University. This one-time lecture will discuss the memoir that she wrote about finding her mother鈥檚 killer and forgiving him before he died in Angola State Penitentiary.
  • On Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019 at 1 p.m., 鈥淛ulius Caesar by William Shakespeare,鈥 presented by National Theatre Live. This one-time recorded performance includes actors Ben Whishaw, Michelle Fairley, David Calder and David Morrissey.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 at 11:15 a.m., 鈥淒ebating Islam and the Middle East,鈥 presented by Mehmet Gurses, Ph.D., a professor of political science at 抖M女仆. This four-week course will examine the complex and complicated nature of Islam, including discussions on war and peace, women and democracy and Islam.
  • On Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 11:15 a.m., 鈥淭he United States, China and Russia: A New World Order or Disorder?鈥 taught by Robert Rabil. Ph.D., a professor of political science at 抖M女仆. This one-time lecture will underscore what鈥檚 driving this new Cold War and analyze whether these three major powers will help create a new world order or disorder.
